How do you curl your hair? (PLEASE answer!!)?

Prom is tomorrow and I'm planning on curling my hair with my friend's curling iron at her house (I don't have one of my own). I mentioned the fact that I was PLANNING on straightening my hair beforehand (to make it nice and shiny), but my friend told me that it was a bad idea and that curling wouldn't work if I did that. The only problem is that my hair is naturally curly and when I blow-dry it, it's SUPER crazy :P Very, very frizzy and...big. My hair is also very thick/naturally blonde (I don't do much with it)

Do you guys straighten your hair before you curl it? What should I do? Thanks so much!!How do you curl your hair? (PLEASE answer!!)?
hey!

im the SAME way., i straighten first and THEN curl. my hair is thick and crazy too :) it works, dont worry. just use a heat protect and curl spray and then hairspray when youre done. and also: for me, i use curlers. the curls last longer and it works better on my type of hair. leave em in for like 35 mins while i wash my face or whatever and the curls come out better :) good luck and have fun at promHow do you curl your hair? I do not straighten my hair first, but I do apply product before I curl it. If you want a nice hold and some shine, use a good brand mousse and a shining serum if you have it (such as Biolage serum or Paul Mitchells- you can get a small bottle at the salon for around 5-6 dollars). Curling will work if you straighten it before, but from my experience, not any better. Also, while you are blow drying you hair, use a round barrel brush to pull some of the curls down while it is drying, this dramatically helps me. Have fun at prom!
No, I don't straighten it before, but I have waves, not curls.

I curl my hair with a straightener though.

Try this YouTube tutorial specifically for girls with natural curls.

straighten it a little bit and then go on youtube and look it up there will no doubt be over 9000 vids of it
yea straightening your hair b4 curling it is not a good idea. but take my advice keep it straight for prom so it will look different from your natural hair
Straightneing it befor will help but if you do it right before the hair wont curl because its already been heated, i would say straightnen it in the morning so its calm and then curl it before you go so it has had time to sit, i usually straightnen mine before like this and it works great! -Good Luck
Your hair seems like it may not be fun to work with! To answer your question, yes you can straighten your hair before you curl it. Straightening your hair will not impede you hair from curling later on. Since your hair is protein, you can break the bonds in each hair strand, called ';denaturing';, by adding heat. It does not matter how many times you break and remake these bonds, your hair will do what its told under the pressure of high heat. Unfortunately, this may be rough on your hair and cause some damage, but since you do not typically do much with your hair this shouldn't be an issue. To make curling it easier, you should put some mousse in your hair when its wet. Hair holds its shape better when your hair has product in it. I would also suggest putting tones of high-hold hairspray on each lock of hair after it is curled. Hairspray is your best friend for a night of dancing! The best hair-spray I've used is Dove extra-hold. Since you have thick hair you are gong to have to give yourself PLENTY of time to get ready, as it may take a while! Good luck and have fun!
